Welcome to Rice & Kai!

I am an English teacher who loves to cook (and eat!).  I was originally born in Malaysia but have lived in Auckland, New Zealand for most of my life. I am married and have a gorgeous little baby girl, as well as a big grey cat who brings home dead mice, burnt toast and fried chicken.  I also come from a rather large family and am the middle child of five children, so I’m used to meal times being rather chaotic but fun.

This blog is all about recipes, food ideas and places to eat at that I want to share.  I love to try new ingredients, different recipes and cuisines, and I also love to celebrate those who take the time to cook good food at home.  Most of what you see on this blog is cooked by me and hubby takes the (great) photos before we tuck in!

I hope that this blog challenges you to try some new things and also gives you a few good ideas in a uniquely Kiwi way.  Enjoy your rice and kai!

  1. Hi there! Love the start of your blog. Keep up the good work. I am writing a blog that highlights the best of food blog/photography around the globe and would like to know if I may use one of your Eggplant Roll photos (the one with the spoon). You would get direct credit for the photo and there will be links to your site. Please let me know and thank you! KEEP BLOGGING!

    • Hi Janet – thanks for the encouraging words. I am happy for you to use the photos (my husband took them!) and to link to my site. I’ve just had a look at your blog too and you have some neat stuff on there!

  2. Hi! My name is Meg, and as my email address reflects, I work with Urbanspoon. We are super excited about our expansion into New Zealand and strengthening our relationships with bloggers in Austrailia. While working through our list, I noticed that it appears we don’t have an email address for Rice and Kai. I apologize for reaching out to you this way, but we don’t have another way of contacting you. If you would send the best contact email to me at: Meg@Urbanspoon.com, it would be appreciated.

I look forward to hearing back from you.
