I’ve really been craving red meat lately, so it wasn’t too much of a surprise when my midwife told me that I was low on transport iron. It’s pretty amazing to find out what your body is telling you if you just listen to it!
This is a recipe from an old Taste magazine and other than the dressing, there’s no set quantities. It’s really up to you. It’s not a strictly authentic Japanese tataki either, but it is refreshing and tasty! I served it with rice and my miso eggplant. You’ll probably also notice that the photo of our meal doesn’t quite match up to the recipe – I didn’t have any rocket or red onion on hand, so just sliced up some cucumber and lettuce instead.
Japanese beef tataki salad
Grill steak until medium-rare, slice and serve with rocket, thinly sliced radishes and red onion to make a salad. Dress with 2 Tbsp soy sauce, the juice of 1/2 lemon and 1 tsp sugar and serve sprinkled with some toasted sesame seeds.
